Point to Ponder 223

Would it not be a fantastic witness to our area if we could secure Lambeau field for a REFORMATION service in 2017 and pack the stadium with a soul lifting heart warming worship service?  For that matter, how terrific would it be if wherever you are located, some mass gathering to celebrate 500 years rejoicing over the return of Christ's gospel for all to relish and believe.

458 years ago this morning, a 30 year old Dr. Martin Luther nailed to the Castle Church door of Wittenberg 95 theses, or statements, some of which soundly condemned the sale of pieces of paper on which were written the forgiveness of sins, a practice, which contradicted the redemption which Christ earned for us.

Dr. Luther opened the Bible and subjected tradition and reason of that day to the truths of Christ’s gospel.  Thus, we learned: not by merit of the saints, but by grace alone are we saved; and not by our works, but by faith alone in Christ’s redemptive work are we saved; and absolutely not by tradition, but by Scripture alone through which we become wise unto salvation.

The Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod subscribes to the Lutheran reformation and confessions without reservation and with confidence that through the clear presentation of Scripture centered in Jesus Christ many will be saved.  Amen.

“These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.  John 20:31
