Upon graduation from High School and learning that he did not receive the car of his dreams, he figured all was lost and took his own life. How foolish! Nevertheless this is happening way too often in our materialist society. Thus, this Point is written.
When God commanded, “You shall not murder”, that included our own person. We don’t belong to ourselves. We have been purchased with the precious blood of God’s own Son, Jesus Christ, and belong to God. We are to glorify God in our body and in our spirit, which are God’s.
Yet, suicide is increasing, especially among teen-agers. This means only one thing: they are without hope and without God in this world.
After the 2nd world war, with family, homes, everything gone, many Germans took their own life to escape the intense pain of despair. They knew what they were doing. In times of crisis Satan assails us with evil, hopeless, suicidal thoughts. To take one’s own life, or think about it is to deny God’s ability to help in every trouble. To take one’s life is removing the opportunity of repentance.
There’s no need for us to despair. Christ bore our sin, and through His resurrection, He is our hope. Trust Jesus. Amen.
“…call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”
