When God commanded, “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, ” He wanted us to train our tongues to praise Him. As preachers we should tremble at the awesome responsibility we have in teaching God’s Word in truth and purity. We are not to twist His Word to fit our reason, prejudice or traditions. We all are messenger boys, which are to deliver the Word unaltered.
No wonder the Lord warns, “Beware of false prophets,” those who teach other than what God’s Word says.
At the same time, every hearer of God’s Word should take heed teachers with pious smiles, but violate God’s name during the week.
Jesus quoted Isaiah, “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.” Jesus says, “Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ be ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” Be careful! We are His ambassadors.
Forgive us Jesus for our hypocrisy. Amen.
I am against the prophets who wag their own tongues and yet declare, “The LORD declares.” Jeremiah 23:31
